Momentum Monday: Missouri Rides NFL Draft Success and Staff Buzz Into Summer
Eliah Drinkwitz has the Tigers building momentum through coordinator changes, a new starting quarterback, and historic draft results.
As the Spring Ball & Recruiting 2026 season transitions toward summer, head coach Eliah Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers have plenty of momentum brewing in Columbia. While ongoing $250 million renovations to Memorial Stadium forced the cancellation of the traditional spring game, the program's off-field buzz is palpable.
The momentum starts with the 2026 NFL Draft, where Missouri tied a program record by having six players selected. While departures like Zion Young, Chris McClellan, and Toriano Pride Jr. represent significant talent leaving for the pros, their draft success provides a massive boost on the recruiting trail.
On the coaching front, there is significant buzz surrounding new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. Taking over play-calling duties following Kirby Moore's departure, Lindsey has already made his mark. A crucial part of the offensive transition includes newly named starting quarterback Austin Simmons. The Ole Miss transfer beat out Matt Zollers and Nick Evers during the team's 15 closed spring practices, cementing his status as QB1 heading into the summer.
Defensively, new coordinator Corey Batoon is tasked with reloading a unit that lost key contributors. Fortunately, he will have returning stars like Darris Smith and incoming transfers like CJ May and Bobby Washington Jr. to build around. With construction cranes looming over Memorial Stadium and a reshaped coaching staff settling in, the Tigers are cultivating undeniable momentum as they look to bounce back from last season's TaxSlayer Gator Bowl loss to Virginia.
