Depth Chart Thursday: The Lane Kiffin Era Begins with a Massive LSU Overhaul
As fall camp kicks off, all eyes are on quarterback Sam Leavitt and a retooled roster navigating the 2026 season.
As we reach Depth Chart Thursday during the Spring Ball & Recruiting 2026 cycle, the LSU Tigers find themselves at a pivotal crossroads. Head coach Lane Kiffin, officially at the helm since late 2025, inherits a program undergoing a transformation unlike any in recent memory.
The headline for this camp is undoubtedly the quarterback room. Sam Leavitt enters as the solidified QB1, though his recovery from foot surgery remains a critical storyline as the team prepares for a high-stakes opener against Clemson on September 5. Behind him, Husan Longstreet and Landen Clark provide depth, but the offense must integrate a staggering influx of over 50 newcomers, including more than 40 transfers.
With major departures like Harold Perkins Jr. and Garrett Nussmeier now in the NFL, the coaching staff, led by Charlie Weis Jr. and Blake Baker, is tasked with building immediate chemistry. Ranked No. 13 in the preseason Coaches Poll, LSU's success this year will hinge on how quickly this massive collective of new faces can coalesce under Kiffin's system.
